Founded in 1914, Portimonense Sporting Clube are based in Portimão, a coastal city in Portugal's Algarve region. The club spent much of its early history competing in regional and lower-level football before establishing itself on the national stage, eventually reaching Portugal's top division. Portimonense enjoyed one of their most notable periods during the 1980s, when strong league performances even brought European football to the Algarve. Their traditional black-and-white striped shirts and close association with Portimão have remained central to an identity stretching back more than a century.
