Dan Burn

Dan Burn is an English defender best known for his imposing 6ft 7in frame, versatility and determined rise through the football pyramid. Born in Blyth, Northumberland, Burn progressed from non-league football to the Premier League, representing clubs including Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion and boyhood club Newcastle United. Equally capable at centre-back or left-back, his career eventually earned him senior international recognition with England.

  1. Released by Newcastle as a youngster
    Burn supported Newcastle United growing up and spent time in the club’s youth system, but was released before eventually working his way back to the club many years later.
  2. Started his senior career in non-league
    Before becoming a Premier League defender, Burn played for Darlington and made his senior breakthrough in the Conference, demonstrating an unusual route to the top level.
  3. Returned home with Newcastle
    Newcastle signed Burn from Brighton in January 2022, allowing the lifelong supporter to represent his hometown club in the Premier League.
  4. Scored in a cup final at Wembley
    Burn scored Newcastle’s opening goal against Liverpool in the 2025 EFL Cup Final, helping the club to a 2–1 victory and its first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
  5. Late England breakthrough
    Burn received his first senior England call-up in March 2025 at the age of 32 and made his international debut against Albania at Wembley, completing a remarkable journey from non-league football to representing his country.
