Football Shirt Revival began with two lifelong passions: football and design.
As a lifelong Aston Villa supporter, I’ve experienced the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Alongside that has always been a fascination with football shirts — not just as items of clothing, but as pieces of sporting history. Every shirt tells a story, whether it’s a memorable season, a famous player, a cup run, a sponsor change, or simply a moment in time.
Over the years I became increasingly frustrated seeing genuine shirts discarded because a sponsor had cracked, a nameset had peeled, or a small flaw had made an otherwise fantastic shirt undesirable. Many of these shirts still had plenty of life left in them.
With more than 20 years of graphic design experience, I began researching ways to carefully restore and preserve shirts that might otherwise have been lost. What started as a personal hobby soon developed into a passion for giving genuine football shirts a second life.
Today, Football Shirt Revival combines football shirt collecting, restoration, authenticity research and careful presentation. While Aston Villa remains at the heart of the collection, the project has expanded to include shirts from clubs across the UK and beyond.
Authenticity Matters
One of the core principles of Football Shirt Revival is a belief in the value of genuine football shirts.
Authentic shirts carry history, collectability, sentimental value and, in many cases, significant financial value. For that reason, authenticity is taken seriously.
Where possible, shirts are assessed using style codes, labels, manufacturer identifiers and other supporting evidence. Authenticity classifications and evidence ratings are provided to help buyers make informed decisions.
The aim is not simply to sell shirts, but to be transparent about what is known, what has been restored, and what evidence supports authenticity.
Restoration With Care
Every restoration is approached with patience and attention to detail.
Measurements are checked, checked again, and checked once more before any application is made. Sponsors, namesets, patches and other details are positioned by hand with the goal of achieving the best possible finish while respecting the original design of the shirt.
Football Shirt Revival is always striving for the highest standard of presentation and continually explores new techniques and technologies where they can improve results.
Presentation Images And Real Photographs
You may notice that some listing pages use clean presentation images.
These images are created to provide a consistent catalogue-style appearance across the website and make it easier to browse shirts. In some cases, AI-assisted tools may be used to create these presentation images.
However, the real product photographs remain the most important images on the site.
Product pages always display the actual shirt photographs so that buyers can see the true condition, any restoration work carried out, and any flaws or imperfections present. Transparency is far more important than creating a perfect image.
The goal is simple: buyers should know exactly what they are getting.
Looking Ahead
Football Shirt Revival continues to grow as a collection, archive and restoration project.
Whether you’re searching for a specific shirt, researching authenticity, looking for restoration inspiration, or simply sharing a love of football shirts, I hope the site proves useful.
Most importantly, I hope these shirts continue to be enjoyed, preserved and appreciated for years to come.
